When Ashley and I took on the PTO president role last spring, we made some aggressive goals for ourselves, all based in the notion that we wanted to leave it better than we found it. I do think we, the rest of the Executive Board, the Board of Managers and all of our volunteers have worked really hard this year to make thoughtful decisions with these goals in mind, and have done a really great job holding ourselves accountable. 

It has been such a gift to get to serve this community and our beloved school as PTO presidents. To give to something that our children and all of the children of Herod have gotten so much from. To get to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, to have a positive impact on the students, and the amazing people working inside the school- those that hold Herod together everyday. Because that is what we believe in, what we signed up for; to build, nurture, and invest our gifts where they can propel positive change. To leave it, better than we found it. 

I'm sure you can imagine that we aren't feeling all that celebratory right now, we aren't basking in the glow of success, or a job well done. We are just looking at each other, heartbroken, with wet eyes and whispering angry words. But we've been here before, and we've marched on, and the grass will grow and the sun will come up. We are excited to look out on new leaders, along with the blossoming Herod community and watch them show up, stand up, and lead this beautiful piece of our lives into the next success story, lead it into something better than how they found it. Come find us whenever you need, we'll be here- always cheering everyone on! 

And two last bossy things from us: 

1. Sign up to help at PTO's BEST DAY EVER as we bid this school year goodbye in fabulous fashion! We need all the hands we can get.

Cuando Ashley y yo asumimos el cargo de presidente del PTO la primavera pasada, nos fijamos algunas metas agresivas, todas basadas en la noción de que queríamos dejarlo mejor de lo que lo encontramos. Creo que nosotros, el resto de la Junta Ejecutiva, la Junta de Gerentes y todos nuestros voluntarios hemos trabajado muy duro este año para tomar decisiones bien pensadas con estos objetivos en mente, y hemos hecho un gran trabajo haciéndonos responsables. 

Ha sido un gran regalo poder servir a esta comunidad y a nuestra querida escuela como presidentes del PTO. Para dar algo de lo que nuestros hijos y todos los hijos de Herodes han recibido tanto. Llegar a ser parte de algo más grande que nosotros mismos, tener un impacto positivo en los estudiantes y en las personas maravillosas que trabajan dentro de la escuela, aquellas que mantienen unido a Herodes todos los días. Porque eso es en lo que creemos, en lo que nos apuntamos; construir, nutrir e invertir nuestros dones donde puedan impulsar un cambio positivo. Para dejarlo, mejor de lo que lo encontramos. 

Estoy seguro de que puedes imaginar que no estamos sintiendo tanta celebración en este momento, no estamos disfrutando del brillo del éxito o del trabajo bien hecho. Simplemente nos miramos, con el corazón roto, con los ojos húmedos y susurrando palabras de enojo. Pero ya hemos estado aquí antes y hemos seguido adelante, la hierba crecerá y el sol saldrá. Estamos entusiasmados de observar a los nuevos líderes, junto con la floreciente comunidad de Herodes, y verlos aparecer, ponerse de pie y llevar esta hermosa parte de nuestras vidas hacia la próxima historia de éxito, conducirla hacia algo mejor de lo que lo encontraron. Ven a buscarnos cuando lo necesites, estaremos aquí, ¡siempre animando a todos! 

Y dos últimas cosas mandonas de nuestra parte: 

1. ¡Regístrese para ayudar en el MEJOR DÍA DEL PTO mientras nos despedimos de este año escolar de una manera fabulosa! Necesitamos todas las manos que podamos conseguir.
