Jets looking good headed into Week Five! We have had such a wonderful first 4 weeks of school, let's finish up September and hope October brings us some rain, a breeze, a temperature in the 80's! (A girl can always hope!)
It was so wonderful to see so many Herod families and PTO members at Friday's Coffee with the Principal and for our first PTO meeting of the year. We could feel all that orange and blue energy pumping and love seeing our families and community come together as we take on this years Herod Adventure!
And a huge thank you to our dear friends at Cafe Piquet for hosting the first Mom's Night Out this past week, we even had some Herod alumni in the house! Thank you to Veronica Garmendez for organizing, looking forward to the next one!
Can't wait to air high five everyone in the CFA drive-thru on Wednesday (Beechnut location!) for our spirit night! Those of you that brave the inside with your little jets, we bow down. Whichever way you get your Chick-fil-A on, make sure to arrive between 5:30 and 7:30 and mention Herod!

Our Herod Hero of the Week |
| Get to know Mr. Spikes This week we had the pleasure of getting to know more about our Herod Hero, Mr. Spikes...did you know he loves to cook! It is impossible to talk about Herod Elementary without mentioning the positive, engaging and wonderful impact Mr. Spikes has on ALL OF US. His 100 watt smile, the front desk flair, and his enthusiasm for life and love is contagious. And the best part...he freely gives his gift to everyone, everyday, young or old, morning or afternoon. How did we ever get so lucky to have this treasure holding down the front of our school!
Herod PTO LOVES you Mr. Spikes!
What is your hidden talent? Although I would consider myself a person of many talents, I know that for the sake of this exercise I will need to narrow it down, so I’ll select my favorite, and that would be cooking. Cooking I seem to embellish on more than any other of my talents. My talent for cooking was born out of effort and desire. Most of my childhood was spent in the kitchen with my mother learning techniques and family recipes, and that has followed me well into my adulthood. The talent and passion that I bring to the table has given me the ability to satisfy and exceed the expectations of many hungry stomachs. What is your dream vacation? I would like to spend my dream vacation at a place where I can experience the beauty of the Himalayas and breathe some fresh air free from pollution while traveling along the tracks amidst flora and fauna. For me, an ideal place for a dream vacation is Pelling situated in Sikkim, India. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do with the money? (Besides donating a portion of it to Herod PTO). If I were to win the lottery the first thing, I would do would be to set a budget. I would sit down with an advisor and take a hard look at how much money I really have after taxes; then nothing but travels from that point. I would take an extensive trip around the world, exploring new cities and cultures, creating new adventures, and dinning on foods that are specific to the regions of my travels. What Herod teachers’ class would you like to be a student in for a day? So, this one was a hard one because Herod does have a lot of excellent teachers, and I ask those that are reading this please don’t take offense. But for me, I would have to choose Ms. Hoskins Pre-K class. I admire her passion for teaching, the creativity, the activities that she introduces to her students, and the centers that she has in place in her classroom, from cooking to panting I would be in sheer delight. I would have a blast in her classroom. Let’s not discount the fact that I would be able to nap during that day. Now, if by chance Ms. Hoskins would be absent that day, then I would make my way up the stairs to second grade to Ms. Moses’s room. In which Hogwarts house would you be sorted? I would choose Ravenclaw for the smart, wise, and witty characteristics that they possess. Ravenclaws are also unique and think outside the box. While there are plenty of positive Ravenclaw traits, such as their intelligence and creativity, and love of learning, their introverted nature and perfectionism can also make them more judgmental. They think they are smarter and more put together than students from other houses. What is your spirit animal? After much consideration I chose the Spider. The spider exemplifies patience, creativity, protection, growth, aptitude, networking, balance, and wisdom. Those are traits that I feel that I embody. The spider reminds us that patience and self-governance are how we create and get what we want in life. Like spiders, people who have this spirit animal are usually good at planning and organizing. They’re efficient and detail-oriented, and they have a knack for seeing the big picture. If you’re looking for someone to help you with a project, a spider person would be a great asset. Is there a quote or saying you live your life by? “Anything you can imagine, you can create.” — Oprah Winfrey What is your favorite Herod memory? For me there are just way too many to list. I spent a week trying to conjure up my favorite memory, yet I was unsuccessful. This was the hardest question for me to answer because there are just way too many to sort through and try to pick one. From the morning greetings, the ample hugs throughout the day, and afternoon goodbye songs, I am fortune enough to say that I create new memories and moments by just being in the building and I can say they all have become my favorites. Herod has some great students, staff, and parents, which all have in some way made a memory with me that resonates daily in my head and heart. To summarize, working here at Herod is a favorite memory of mine and I have created enough memories already to last me a lifetime. Going forward I do believe that being named Herod Hero of the week will now be a new favorite Herod memory of mine. |

¡Los jets lucen bien de cara a la quinta semana! Hemos tenido unas maravillosas primeras 4 semanas de clases, ¡terminemos septiembre y esperemos que octubre nos traiga algo de lluvia, brisa y una temperatura en los 80 grados! (¡Una niña siempre puede tener esperanza!)
Fue maravilloso ver a tantas familias de Herod y miembros del PTO en el café del viernes con el director y en nuestra primera reunión del año del PTO. ¡Podíamos sentir toda esa energía naranja y azul bombeando y nos encantaba ver a nuestras familias y comunidad unirse mientras asumíamos la aventura Herodes de este año!
Y muchas gracias a nuestros queridos amigos del Café Piquet por organizar la primera Mom's Night Out la semana pasada. ¡Incluso tuvimos algunos exalumnos de Herodes en la casa! Gracias a Verónica Garmendez por organizar, ¡esperamos con ansias el próximo!
¡No puedo esperar para chocar esos cinco con todos en el autoservicio de CFA el miércoles (¡ubicación de Beechnut!) para nuestra noche de espíritu! Aquellos de ustedes que desafían el interior con sus pequeños aviones, nos inclinamos. Cualquiera que sea la forma en que elijas Chick-fil-A, asegúrate de llegar entre las 5:30 y las 7:30 y ¡menciona a Herodes!

| Conozca al Sr. Spikes Esta semana tuvimos el placer de conocer más sobre nuestro héroe Herodes, el Sr. Spikes... ¡ sabías que le encanta cocinar! Es imposible hablar de la Primaria Herod sin mencionar el impacto positivo, atractivo y maravilloso que el Sr. Spikes tiene en TODOS NOSOTROS. Su sonrisa de 100 vatios, el estilo de la recepción y su entusiasmo por la vida y el amor son contagiosos. Y la mejor parte... da gratuitamente su regalo a todos, todos los días, jóvenes o mayores, por la mañana o por la tarde. ¡Cómo pudimos ser tan afortunados de tener este tesoro en el frente de nuestra escuela! ¡ El PTO de Herodes lo AMA,Sr. Spikes! ¿Cuál es tu talento oculto? Aunque me consideraría una persona con muchos talentos, sé que por el bien de este ejercicio necesitaré acotarlos, así que seleccionaré mi favorito, y ese sería cocinar. La cocina parece que embellezco más que cualquier otro de mis talentos. Mi talento para la cocina nació del esfuerzo y las ganas. La mayor parte de mi infancia la pasé en la cocina con mi madre aprendiendo técnicas y recetas familiares, y eso me ha seguido hasta bien entrada la edad adulta. El talento y la pasión que aporto me han dado la capacidad de satisfacer y superar las expectativas de muchos estómagos hambrientos. ¿Cuáles son las vacaciones de tus sueños? Me gustaría pasar las vacaciones de mis sueños en un lugar donde pueda experimentar la belleza del Himalaya y respirar aire fresco libre de contaminación mientras viajo por las pistas en medio de flora y fauna. Para mí, un lugar ideal para unas vacaciones de ensueño es Pelling, situado en Sikkim, India. Si te tocara la lotería, ¿qué sería lo primero que harías con el dinero? (Además de donar una parte a Herod PTO). Si me tocara la lotería lo primero que haría sería fijarme un presupuesto. Me sentaría con un asesor y analizaría detenidamente cuánto dinero tengo realmente después de impuestos; entonces nada más que viaja desde ese punto. Haría un viaje extenso alrededor del mundo, exploraría nuevas ciudades y culturas, crearía nuevas aventuras y cenaría platos específicos de las regiones de mis viajes. ¿En qué clase de profesores de Herodes te gustaría ser estudiante por un día? Entonces, este fue difícil porque Herodes tiene muchos maestros excelentes, y les pido a los que están leyendo esto que no se ofendan. Pero en mi caso, tendría que elegir la clase de Pre-K de la Sra. Hoskins. Admiro su pasión por la enseñanza, la creatividad, las actividades que presenta a sus alumnos y los centros que tiene en su aula, desde cocinar hasta jadear, estaría encantado. Me lo pasaría genial en su salón de clases. No descartemos el hecho de que podría tomar una siesta durante ese día. Ahora, si por casualidad la Sra. Hoskins estuviera ausente ese día, entonces subiría las escaleras hasta segundo grado hasta la habitación de la Sra. Moses. ¿En qué casa de Hogwarts te clasificarían? Elegiría Ravenclaw por las características inteligentes, sabias e ingeniosas que poseen. Los Ravenclaw también son únicos y piensan fuera de lo común. Si bien hay muchos rasgos positivos de Ravenclaw, como su inteligencia, creatividad y amor por aprender, su naturaleza introvertida y perfeccionismo también pueden hacerlos más críticos. Creen que son más inteligentes y más organizados que los estudiantes de otras casas. ¿Cual es tu animal espiritual? Después de mucha consideración elegí el Spider. La araña ejemplifica la paciencia, la creatividad, la protección, el crecimiento, la aptitud, la creación de redes, el equilibrio y la sabiduría. Esos son rasgos que siento que encarno. La araña nos recuerda que la paciencia y el autogobierno son la forma en que creamos y conseguimos lo que queremos en la vida. Al igual que las arañas, las personas que tienen este espíritu animal suelen ser buenas planificando y organizando. Son eficientes y detallistas, y tienen una habilidad especial para ver el panorama general. Si estás buscando a alguien que te ayude con un proyecto, una persona araña sería una gran ventaja. ¿Hay alguna cita o dicho según el cual vives tu vida? "Todo lo que puedas imaginar, puedes crearlo". - Oprah Winfrey ¿Cuál es tu recuerdo favorito de Herodes? Para mí hay demasiados para enumerarlos. Pasé una semana intentando evocar mi recuerdo favorito, pero no lo conseguí. Esta fue la pregunta más difícil de responder para mí porque hay demasiadas para clasificar e intentar elegir una. Desde los saludos de la mañana, los amplios abrazos durante el día y las canciones de despedida de la tarde, tengo la suerte de decir que creo nuevos recuerdos y momentos con solo estar en el edificio y puedo decir que todos se han convertido en mis favoritos. Herodes tiene excelentes estudiantes, personal y padres, quienes de alguna manera han creado un recuerdo conmigo que resuena diariamente en mi cabeza y corazón. Para resumir, trabajar aquí en Herod es uno de mis recuerdos favoritos y ya he creado suficientes recuerdos para toda la vida. |
