Second week is ready for take off!

I hope your first week of school went smoothly with only a few bumps along the way! 

Here are a few quick reminders for this week: 

  • PTO Membership & Family Sponsorship - A big thank you to all the families who have already joined the PTO! If you haven’t yet, it’s never too late. Through our Family Sponsorship program, your contribution helps maintain the level of support the PTO provides to our school and teachers. Every bit counts! 
  • VIPS - If you plan to volunteer on campus or attend field trips, don't forget to get VIPS approved. The link is in the newsletter below.
  • Open House is coming soon! - split over two nights by grade levels. All details are listed below.
  • Spirit Night -  Our first spirit night is coming up! Check out the details below to see how you can support our school while enjoying some delicious fajitas.
  • Parent Night Out & Auction Committee - Love planning fun events? Consider joining the Auction Planning Committee! Email Kyle Kaspar to join the team!
  • The Jetway- our school store opens this week so tell your kids to come with a few dollars (cash only) to check out the new inventory! 

Herod is where our children’s futures take flight, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this incredible community. Thank you for your continued support.

PTO Communication and Engagement Tools

Welcome to the new school year! We know you get a lot of digital notifications, so we want to make communication as easy and painless as possible. We use three specific tools to stay organized.

Here is what they are and how we use them:

  • ParentSquare: Our official home base. Look here for school-wide announcements, emergency updates, and notes directly from your child's teacher and school staff. 
    Make sure to download the app so you never miss a critical alert.

  • Membership Toolkit: Our friendly neighborhood hub for all things school community!  Visit here when you need to buy spirit wear, get your child's birthday marquee announcement, pay for your annual PTO membership, or look up a classmate's contact info for playdates.

  • Social Media: We have Facebook and Instagram for posting about PTO events, news, and upcoming events! Click the links to access, like, and follow our pages.

REMINDER Drop-Off and Pick -Up

Drop-off

All students enter the school at the front, either through the drop-off line, walk-up, or via buses that park on Jason Street.

Please help us keep ALL students safe with these reminders.

  • 5th Grade Students, School Staff, Crossing guards, and Police officers are present to keep you and the students safe. You are expected to comply with their directions at all times.
  • There is no parking on the school side of Jason Street, between the circle drive and Mullins - this area is reserved for BUSES ONLY.
  • Follow all city traffic safety rules and posted signs. (Ex. no double parking, park on the right side of the street only, etc.)

Sept 10th | Spirit Night at Raising Cane's

DINNER is PLANNED!!


Raising Cane's on S. Rice is hosting our first Spirit Night of the year. ALL purchases from 4-9pm on September 10th will contribute to the 20% of sales that come directly back to Herod! 

Sept 12th | Community FREE Movie Night

September 12 on the Herod lawn (or inside the MPR, if it rains).  

Come early to play on the playground and soccer field, then stay for the movie, which begins after sunset.

Refreshments will be available for purchase - cash preferred. 

Sept 18th | General PTO Meeting

September 18th

:) Hour with Principal Hewett at 7:45am

Sept 29th | Bingo Night at Cafe Piquet

September 29th from 4-9pm

Join us for Spirit Night at our Corporate Sponsor, Cafe Piquet!  

You can dine in and enjoy Bingo from 6-8pm or place a to-go order - all of it counts toward the evening's donations to the Herod community! 

Important Information
Calling All 5th Grade Parents!

We are hitting the ground running as we plan an amazing year for our 5th Grade Class. Sign up now to join in on the planning or to just be in the know on upcoming events and activities! 


5th grade dues are $75 for the year and can be paid in full or in $25 increments - you choose!

*There are a limited amount of scholarships available upon request 

Family Sponsorship

Support the PTO by becoming a Family Sponsor!  PTO helps fill academic and classroom gaps where HISD's budget falls short. The PTO also directs funds to teachers and staff appreciation, school maintenance, and enhancing the school experience for all of our Jets!

In order to volunteer on campus or during field trips, you will need to register with HISD’s VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools). You need to sign up each academic year that you want to volunteer.

Jetway

The Jetway will be open on the 1st day for Take Off.  Come work at our on-site school store, The Jetway, and help kids shop safely and learn valuable life skills. The kids can buy pencils, erasers, fidget items, pens, stickers, and more within the budget you set for them!


VOLUNTEERS RUN THIS STORE! SIGN UP TO HELP!


This is a great way to spend 30 minutes with your kid and get involved in the wonderful JET family. PTO will ensure someone will help guide you during your first shift and show you the ropes
