Get to know Mrs. Flanagan!

This week we caught up with one of favorite Kinder Queens, Mrs. Flanagan, and learned some interesting things we didn't know! We surely can't imagine Herod without Mrs. Flanagan in one of the classrooms- encouraging and shaping the minds of our youngest Jets! We sure are lucky to have this wonderful and caring educator as part of our Herod Family! Herod PTO LOVES you Mrs. Flanagan!

What is your hidden talent?

I grew up dancing and still love it today! Although I don't get into the studio as much as I'd like to it is always fun to take a class and remember why I fell in love with it to begin with.

What is your dream vacation?

Anywhere on the beach with my family and friends.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do with the money? (Besides donating a portion of it to Herod PTO)

I would buy my parents a beach house in Bermuda then spend the rest on Amazon improving my classroom!

What Herod teachers' class would you like to be a student in for a day?

Ms. Moses! A very wise student once told me that being in Ms. Moses' class isn't even like school! I see the games she plays with students to keep them engaged and quiet in the hallways, I know she loves to sing and teach as much as I do, and her energy is contagious. I would love the opportunity to learn from her.

In which Hogwarts house would you be sorted?

No matter how many times I take the online sorting hat quizzes, I always end up in Slytherin. However, my family and friends believe I am better suited for Hufflepuff.

What is your spirit animal?

A skunk! "The skunk spirit animal is calm, fearless, and patient. If the skunk is your spirit animal, you know how to stand your ground and defend yourself if necessary. You are also aware of your power and use it wisely. You attract people with quiet strength, and they respect you for it." A friend once gave me a spirit animal test and arrived at skunk. It surprised me at first, but I have grown to love it.

Is there a quote or saying you live your life by?

"What doesn't kill me make me stronger" - Friedrich Nietzsche

I wrote my college entry essay about this quote. It is one that my dad says often and has stuck with me throughout my life. It has taught me to adapt to new and challenging situations and never give up.

What is your favorite Herod memory?

There are too many to count! Herod is my home away from home and I have met so many wonderful educators and families through this community. One memory that stands out to me is working side by side with my best friend, Ms. Rosenfield, on the Pre-K team. We were an incredible team and so passionate about the students we taught. Together we built a strong Pre-K program with play-based learning that followed fun and exciting themes. We turned our dramatic play center into space stations, firehouses, apple orchards and so much more. Our students loved it and that made it so much more enjoyable for us to create!
